Guided Tour of Historical UWC Monastery Garden

One of the central places of UWC Robert Bosch College is the monastery garden, which dates back to the founding of the historical Carthusian monastery in 1346, and has existed for more than 500 years. Today, the 2000 square-metre area looks not unlike its early days, and is home to a variety of agricultural crops. Since 2015, the garden has become part of the Swiss Foundation Pro Specie Rara, which is committed to protecting the cultural and genetic diversity of plants and animals.

Together with agronomist and pedagogue Eva-Maria Schüle, and local Freiburg volunteers, three teams of students work and cultivate the garden, as part of their service program, learning about sustainable and organic gardening. Students can harvest fruit, vegetables and herbs in summer and fall, for meals in the
shared kitchen or as required. This calming space is also ideal for meditation and study.

We are lucky enough to have been invited back to UWC Robert Bosch College for a special guided tour through their delightful monastery garden. After the tour (approximately one hour), we will have dinner at Restaurant La Playa, Schwarzwaldstraße 195, 79102 Freiburg.
